Saturday, January 17th Basket Making workshop

Zebiya, a native of Uganda, holds a B.A from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda and a Graduate Diploma from the University of London, U.K. |
Zebiya has taught in Schools in Uganda and in Britain. Then she was selected to work in the School Administration of the Uganda Government. In 1978, she moved to the U.S. and began offering Classes and Workshops on Uganda and on African Crafts to various Schools and at Community Events in and around Philadelphia, PA. and New Jersey.
Zebiya's Basket-Making experience started early, when she was growing-up in the rural areas of Uganda. At that time,"Craft work", or "Handwork" as it was called then, was an important part of every child's education.
Besides learning how to make COIL Baskets, they made mats, bags, wall hangings, bracelets and bookmarks. The Boys did mostly the Wicker Baskets.
The materials used were from the local environment, such as palm-leaves, papyrus-stems, different types of reeds and vines.
Zebiya will enjoy teaching you how to make COIL BASKETS and sharing some of her memories of growing up in Uganda.
